Belonging in Action: Making Room for All

Published on October 30, 2026

Accessibility & Inclusion

When we think about accessibility, we often think about physical spaces, accommodations, or technology. But accessibility is also about how we communicate, collaborate, and create opportunities for people to participate.

In a community as diverse as ACW, our members bring different experiences, abilities, perspectives, and needs to the table. Creating a sense of belonging means recognizing that what works for one person may not work for everyone.

Sometimes, making room for others is as simple as offering multiple ways to participate in a conversation, providing flexibility in how we connect, or being mindful that not every challenge someone faces is visible.

Belonging in Action means moving beyond good intentions and thinking about the small, everyday choices that make inclusion possible.

This Month’s Belonging in Action Challenge

Think about one small change you can make to create a more accessible and welcoming experience for someone else.

Maybe it’s sharing meeting materials in advance, enabling captions during a virtual event, offering different ways to contribute ideas, or simply asking someone what would help them participate more comfortably.

One small action can make a meaningful difference in someone’s ability to feel included.

Because belonging isn’t about expecting everyone to participate in the same way. It’s about making sure everyone has an opportunity to participate.

About The DEI&B Committee

The ACW Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging Committee advocates for an industry where everyone — no matter their gender, ethnicity, age or sexual orientation — is equally valued and included. Committee members collaborate with ACW leaders, members and their employers, our sponsors and vendors to create programs to realize this goal.
